POWER! What
do I think of when I think of the person of the Trinity of God
that we know as the Holy Spirit?
I think of Power! I think of Peace. I think of Presence, God
presence. I think of Personal. Jesus was referred to in the
scripture as Emmanuel, God with us in the flesh.
John 1:14
14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have
seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came
from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus was
that Word. He came to be among us as a man to reveal to us the
truth of who God is.
The Holy Spirit is also God with us, only not in the flesh but
in the Spirit. He is the person of the Trinity that is very
real and active in us and among us, carrying out the ministry
Jesus began.
Acts 1:8 declares: "But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you..."
I often
hear about our weakness and short comings from teachers,
preachers, and fellow Christians. I am sure we are all very
aware of our inabilities. Yes, we need to be truthful about
ourselves. But the truth of God is about how powerful He is.
It is about what He can do in us that brings hope and
encouragement. God did not send His Son Jesus to die on the
cross for our sins, rise from death and the tomb, and send His
promised Holy Spirit to leave us in our own weakness and short
comings. He came to give us new hearts, new Life, new power,
and certain hope.
Way too many believers and followers of Christ never rise
above what they can do. God wants to display His power and
glory in us through our weakness to show what He can do!
2 Corinthians
12:9
But he said to me,
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more
gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on
me.
POWER!
God's
Word is a message of truth and power to those who surrender
their lives to Him and invite the Holy Spirit to fill their
lives. God's Word declares power over sin, power to live holy
lives, power to love our enemy, power to be "more than conquerors."
Religion's
message alone only offers mediocracy, failure, and
disappointment. God's message offers victory, joy, life to the
full, and fulfillment.
Either we
are living in the power of our won resources or we are living
in the Power of the Holy Spirit and God's resources.
If we are
living in fear, disappointment and failure, there is a good
chance we have not tapped into the Power available to those
who will believe and obey the God of truth.
"Oh
Lord, I pray, in Jesus name, that we will turn our hearts to
You. May we tarry and wait in Your presence, seek Your face,
call upon Your name until we have heard from heaven and been
endued with power from You through Your Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit, forgive us of our neglect of You.
May we invite You to come and cleanse us, fill us, and empower
us to live the Life You intend for us here and now.
2 Peter 1:3
"His divine
power has given us everything we need for a godly life through
our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and
goodness."
